In this paper we describe an X windows environment with the pen as only device. The gestures for the editing commands are chosen by the user. The present implementation is geared towards editing printed text previously entered with the keyboard. We developed a set of reusable tools that permit designing other pen editors such as editors of personal cursive notes (without translation into printed characters). The pen replaces mouse and keyboard and allows entering free hand drawings. Keyboards functions are obtained with handwriting recognition.
